Former Obama Asia Diplomat Writes Burma’s ‘Baby Tiger’ Is Ready to Roar

Kurt Campbell, former US assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, called in a Monday op-ed in the London-based Financial Times for sustained Western investment in Burma. In “Asia’s newest baby tiger,” he wrote, “power has shifted dramatically and rapidly from the people still wearing uniforms to those in the civilian sphere who have just taken them off.” Aung San Suu Kyi, he suggested, is “more relevant and relentless than ever.” Now is the time for investment in the country from Western countries, Campbell wrote. Now is the time “when the trickle will turn into a steady flow.”
