Japan to Finance $24.5m to Improve Education

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will fund ¥2.5 billion ($24.51 million) to help improve Myanmar’s education sector, the agency said.

The project aims to improve quality of teacher education in the educational college, JICA said. Education colleges in Myanmar are institutes to train teachers in basic education.

The said grant amount will cover for administration building including assembly hall and gymnasium, classrooms building, hostels and dining hall with kitchen. Necessary equipment will be set up as necessary.

The Japanese agency said the quality of the education, especially teachers’ education, is one of the reasons that deter motivation of students to continue learning.

JICA said the project will improve education colleges which will produce teachers of higher quality and greater competence who will in turn upgrade the quality of the students as well as the quality of basic education of the country.

The grant agreement for the “Project for Improvement of Education College” was signed between the Department of Educational Planning and Training under the Ministry of Education and JICA, a statement said.
