Telenor Myanmar SIMs will work in five neighbouring countries

Telenor Myanmar SIM cards will work in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Thailand, a spokesperson for the company told Mizzima on October 8.

Ko Soe Thu Tun, information officer for Telenor Myanmar told Mizzima added that they were currently testing the network in Yangon and would soon release SIM cards in Myanmar’s most populous city.

Previous press releases have indicated that SIMs will be available for purchase in Yangon on October 11 but a sales agent in Yangon told Mizzima on October 8, that he was expecting to see cards on sale October 12.

“Company officials told sale agents the allotment of SIM cards will begin on 12 October. We will sell at K1,500 (US$1.50) per card,” he said.

Norway-based Telenor was one of two foreign companies to receive licences to roll out mobile network provision across Myanmar in competition with state-owned Myanma Post and Telecommunications and launched services in Mandalay at the end of September. Ooredoo launched their network in August.
