Singapore-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion company ONE Championship held its first fight night in Myanmar on Saturday night.
A packed Thuwunna Stadium in the commercial capital Yangon saw reigning ONE bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes defeat Toni Tauru to retain his title belt.
The Brazilian knocked out his Finnish opponent with a right-handed punch with about a minute left in the third round of their bout.
It was the 10th victory in a row for Fernandes.
He has not lost a fight in nearly five years and has an 18-3 professional win-loss record.
Saturday’s fight night also saw two outings for Myanmar fighters, both of which ended in knockout wins.
In the featherweight competition, Tha Pyay Nyo finished off Myo Man Thit with a series of punches, while Thway Thit Aung won the lightweight category with a devastating knockout punch against Saw Ba Oo.
Besides this Myanmar fight night, ONE championship will also be organising debut events elsewhere – Shanghai and Macau – later this year.
