The Vintage Luxury Yacht Hotel (VLYH) opened this summer situated just around the corner of the Botahtaung Pagoda at Botahtaung Jetty anchored in the Yangon River. It is a modern five-deck Finnish ship but it’s been styled as a “total immersion 1920s experience”, with art nouveau, art deco and Victorian furnishings.
The 104 rooms are all styled to look like something out of the 1920s. A lot of work went into the design; the whole hotel is adorned in wood, brass and leather, equipped with feather fountain pen, a battery-powered lantern, 42” LCD TV enclosed in a leather box, and a mirror printed with an old map and a faux fire place. The docking station is disguised to look like a phonograph.
The river-side rooms have good views of the sunrise and sunset. In the evening, the rooms are illuminated with soft, warm lighting, and are pleasantly quiet, a rarity for downtown Yangon. All rooms are furnished with Zero Gravity Bed. The suites have spacious living room, private deck with bath tub and shower and a sauna.
The hotel have customised printed carpet resembling the wooden slats of an ocean liner, faux wood wallpaper and rope tracing its way around the ceiling. The room also has air-conditioning and free wi-fi internet access.
VLYH’s restaurants combine traditional Myanmar, European and Indian cooking with culinary concepts from all over the world by experienced chefs, with distinctive cuisines to choose from each.
1920 Industrial Restaurant
Named after the Burmese Industrial revolution during that era, the restaurant reflects the concept everywhere; from furniture to crockery, ambience to the customised carpet along with a choice from set menus with their origins in traditional modern European cuisine. The 1920 Industrial Restaurant can be a place to enjoy special dining experience and family occasions. The menus are available between 7am and 11pm every day, with prior reservation recommended.
At the Lunch Club a new two-course lunch menu from just $9.99 is now available throughout the week between 12 midday and 3.30pm. Vegetarian option is also available.
At this restaurant international breakfast buffet and world cuisine à la carte dining can be enjoyed all day. With the bustling interior and the interactive open-plan Robinson Bar lending a sense of excitement, this restaurant with its sunrise open deck extension showcases a range of cuisine, from authentic Myanmar, Indian dishes to European, Japanese and Pan-Asian specialties. The open deck alfresco extension is an ideal setting for a dinner or a lavish brunch. A popular choice with non-residents of the hotel is the freshly prepared Bollywood Night every Friday and discounted Lunch Club menus (Monday to Sunday). Breakfast is served everyday between 6.30am to 11.00am. The à la carte menus are available between 11.00am and 11.00pm every day.
A selection of fine wines, intercontinental beers, spirits and the hotel’s special cocktail menu is available at the Victoria Bar. Taking its design influences from a mix of 1920 and Victorian cultures and with an outside sunset deck, the architecture of the Victoria bar is particularly unusual and gives you a “window on the universe” through the open area at the deck of the structure. Also serving a range of non-alcoholic beverages and with an informal bar menu, the bar is open to residents and non-residents during 9am–2am. Bar snacks are available until 1.30am in the morning. Victoria Bar’s selection of single malts and premium scotches, bourbon whiskey, vodka, liqueur and classic old and new world wines make it more than ideal venue for a connoisseur.
