After interrogating Saw Myint Lwin and seven accomplices who have confessed to recent bomb blasts throughout the country, the Myanmar Police Force has made more arrests in connection with the crimes, the force says.
“We are interrogating those arrested recently to explore more about the case. We are collaborating with police members from various regions and divisions,” said Police Col. Ko Ko Aung, spokesperson for MPF Chief Zaw Win.
According to police investigations, the intent behind the bombings was to hinder foreign investment in Myanmar.
On October 18, Zaw Win said that the Police Force was doing its best to arrest Nay Toe of the Karen National Union, in cooperation with the KNU. Nay Toe, who served five years conducting business for the KNU, is believed to have masterminded the bomb blasts and the planting of several other bombs.
Saw Myint Lwin has confessed that Nay Toe promised him Ks 500,000 (about US$500), and a gold mine plot permit, if he helped carry out the bombings. During the bombing campaign, there were seven explosions while four other bombs were planted and later discovered and safely removed.
Three people were killed and ten wounded, including an American citizen.
