India Eyes Cooperation in Myanmar’s Energy Sector

India is seeking cooperation in the energy sector with Myanmar, state-run media reported.

A meeting on energy cooperation was held in Nay Pyi Taw, with the participation of Myanmar Minister for Environmental Conservation and Forestry U Win Tun and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhaya.

Both sides focused on the use of renewable energy and various energy, as well as drawing of energy policy and procedures.

They also emphasised cooperation between the ministry and the Energy and Resources Institute of India in enhancement of research and capacity, development of waterways in Kaladan river, investment in tea plantations in Kachin and Chin states and related technical assistance.

The two sides also will carry out cooperation in conservation of forest resources and bio-diversities, implementation of ecotourism industry and a training program under which Myanmar trainees will be sent to India to pursue forest protection, environmental conservation and land survey.

Myanmar and India authorities will sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the energy sector.
