Since the enactment of the recent telecommunication bylaws, more than 10 local and foreign IT companies have applied for licences to construct towers, lay cables and provide other services, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The directorate of telecommunications enacted the bylaws on October 14.
“More than 10 companies have applied for licences. The licence process should take one to three months, based on their licences. Some companies will be unsuccessful. But they can start work soon after registration. Many companies, including Sky Net, have applied but the ministry has yet to grant licences to any company,” said Than Tun Aung, director of telecommunications at the ministry.
Among the Myanmar companies that have applied are Red Link, Global Net and Sky Net.
