Natural gas prices not to rise, says MOGE

The Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) has denied a rumour that it will increase the price of compressed natural gas and promised to make an official announcement when prices are to increase.

“The rumuor that gas prices will be raised is not true. We will officially inform the public through online social media when we plan to increase it,” said Hla Htay Win, the general manager of MOGE.

Last December, the All Bus Lines Control Committee requested that the Yangon Region government supply more gas for long-distance buses due to supply shortages.

Meanwhile, MOGE is plans to supply more gas for city buses. In the pilot program, a total of 35 buses will be supplied with greater amounts of natural gas. Minibuses in the program will receive an additional 100 litres, and full-size buses will receive 200-480 litres.

Myanmar earned US$3.2 billion from natural gas exports in the first eight months of this fiscal year. An average of 47.14 billion cubic feet of natural gas is extracted annually, 78 per cent of which is exported.

Last fiscal year, Myanmar earned $3.6 billion from natural gas exports, according to the Commerce Ministry.

Zawtika, Yadana, Ye Takon and Shwe are the main gas projects for export. Myanmar is sells much of its natural gas it to neighboring countries China and Thailand.
