Mizzima media group will cease publication of its local-language newspaper on February 28, said Soe Myint, chief editor and managing director of Mizzima media.
The stoppage of publication is due to the introduction of digital newspaper on January 1 this year. But the Mizzima media will extend its TV and radio broadcasting services.
The government gave the green-light for the publication of 16 private daily newspapers in 2013. The Voice daily, the Union Daily, the New Golden Land daily and the Standard Time Daily firstly came out on April 1, 2013.
The circulation of Myanmar Newsweek daily started on 20 April; 7 Day Daily on 25 April; Yangon Times Daily on 1 May; the Daily Eleven on 3 May; the Messenger on 7 May, Mizzima on 23 May; Pyimyanmar daily on 6 June and the Emperor daily on 18 June.
Mizzima’s shutdown comes after the closure of the New Golden Land daily, Myanmar Newsweek daily, Yangon Times daily and the Emperor daily.
The remaining private dailies on the market are: the Daily Eleven, the Messenger, 7 Day daily, the Voice Daily, the Mandalay Alin daily, the Standard Time daily, Democracy Today and Pyimyanmar daily. The Messenger daily is being circulated free of charge.
