Singapore, Myanmar extend official training programme

NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar: Singapore renewed its commitment to Myanmar’s development as the two countries extended an official training programme on Tuesday (Jun 30) in Nay Pyi Taw.

Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Myanmar Vice-President Sai Mauk Kham witnessed the signing of an agreement to extend the Singapore-Myanmar Technical Cooperation Programme for another three years.

The programme funds and provides Singapore-style training for Myanmar officials in economic development, human resources and public administration.

Mr Teo is on an official three-day visit to Myanmar, his first as Deputy Prime Minister.

Singapore has been training Myanmar officials for more than a decade, starting with a training centre in Yangon in 2001. This relationship was raised a notch in 2012, when Myanmar President Thein Sein visited Singapore. That was the start of the Singapore-Myanmar Technical Cooperation Programme, which was renewed on Tuesday.
