800-bed hospital to be built with Chinese assistance

YANGON: China has agreed to finance the construction of a new 800-bed hospital in Htaukgyant Township, Yangon Region, according to the Yangon Regional Government Committee.

Earlier, a plan to build a new hospital in Hmawebi Township, has been scrapped because it is inconvenient.

“The hospital will be built on six acres of land owned by the Development Affairs Committee. We have already informed them [China] to build the hospital. If more land plots will be needed, the Ministry of Education will share some its own land,” said an unidentified official from the Yangon Regional Government Committee.

The previous plan was to build a 1,000-bed hospital like the Yangon General Hospital; however, the Yangon government opted for 800-bed hospital.

The Yangon Regional Government Committee also plans to upgrade hospitals in remote townships in Yangon Region.
