Ooredoo Partners with Tech Startup Bindez to Provide Burmese News Content

Telecom service provider Ooredoo has partnered with local technology startup Bindez to bring a news app for Android users called “Bindez Tha Din”.

This is Bindez’ first product to the market and it’s in “Public Beta stage”.

Ooredoo and Bindez have been engaged over the last few months in developing an app to serve the growing content and information needs of Myanmar.

Ooredoo said the app has been tested extensively for technology, product and design needs and has gone through several rounds of iteration.

Currently Bindez Tha Din allows users to find, read, save and share latest Burmese language news updates, and can be downloaded for free for Android.

Some of its features are – a search functionality to look for specific news topics or events across popular categories, “live” information tiles offering latest updates on weather, gas prices, dollar rates, and football scores, hourly or daily notifications across all categories, and the ability to save articles for later reading.

The team at Bindez is also working with media companies and experts to bring advanced features like a reader-friendly “App View” for faster and cleaner news access, and is developing technology to offer customised news options based on social popularity and relevant content.

Thiri Kyar Nyo, senior manager of public and community relations, Ooredoo Myanmar, said, “Across our markets, entrepreneurs are developing innovative ICT programs and mobile apps, but often do not have the resources to bring these to market or scale their solutions.

“Our innovation and incubation programs provide expertise, funding, and exposure to develop entrepreneurialism at the grassroots level. We aim to support local businesses via these flagship developments, and to provide inspiring role models of success to encourage human growth through innovation, with the potential to impact millions of lives across our markets.”
