US-based Pizza Hut has launched in Yangon and stated that it would create over 500 jobs in the next few years.
It is a joint venture between Pizza Hut Myanmar, the City Mart Holding Co Ltd and Jardine Restaurant Group.
Jardine is one of the top restaurant groups and has opened 680 Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken branches in Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.
“Around 97 per cent of our staff as well as most of the ingredients are domestic. This opening ceremony is the start of Pizza Hut Myanmar’s journey. We plan to open about 15 to 20 branches throughout the country in the next five years and ahead,” said Henry Yip, CEO of Jardine.
Pizza Hut Myanmar opens from 10am to 10pm every day and the minimum price on the menu is Ks4,000.
It currently employs 100 people with plans for that number to rise above 600 within three years. It plans to open a second outlet in the beginning of next year.
Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 1958 and now has about 16,000 branches in 90 countries.
