Construction begins on Mahabandoola rental housing project

Yangon—Construction on the Mahabandoola rental housing project has begun in South Dagon Township this month, sources say.

The regional government granted contracts to 26 local construction companies, including the Myanmar Land and Development Company, Advanced Global Technologies Construction, Manaw Ayeyar Construction, Khine Yati Company and Kyae Myint Mo Company, to implement the project in early January.

The project is located at the corner of No 2 Road and Mahabandoola Road. Each unit will include a bedroom, a toilet and a bathing room. Each apartment measures 569.5 square feet. Applications can be submitted starting February 1 at respective township administrators’ offices, according to Yangon Region government.

“We allow one application form for each family. They have to show evidence of renting a house. Copies of the application form will be displayed at township offices. People who want to apply can copy it and apply. They can pay fees monthly. The rental fees will be between Ks 30,000 and Ks 50,000 per month,” said an unnamed official from the regional government.

The project is expected to be completed at the end of March, according to the regional government.

The Union government allotted Ks 20 billion to the regional government to implement the project. The regional government has announced that if there are many applicants, they will set up a lucky draw system to select tenants.
