Only left-hand drive vehicles permitted to import in 2017

Only left-hand drive vehicles will be permitted to be imported to Myanmar next year, according to an announcement released by the Commerce Ministry on Wednesday.

According to the model year limit of imported cars for 2017, cars made between 2011 and 2014 are allowed for import for replacing old and scrapped cars under a consignment system, whereas cars imported under individual permit must have models years of 2015 or newer, with the permit issued only for left-hand drive vehicles. Moreover, the model year limit for City Bus, Mini- bus and industrial used machinery are between 2007 and 2017, whereas Express cars with model years from 2012-2017 are permitted to be imported, for only left-hand drive.
