Roadside shopkeepers have been ordered to move to the night market on the Strand Road starting from November 15, sources say.
Since the opening of the night market over a year ago, the vendors in the Shwebontha Street in Pabedan Township were instructed to move when they could.
The officials started moving the shops yesterday.
Ngwe Soe, administrator at the eastern district Yangon City Development Committee, said: “We employed 40 men to move the shops today. The township police also helped enforce security.”
The vendors were ordered to sell only at the night market and told that selling in the streets and in front of residential buildings was forbidden.
“They are housed on the Strand Road. Everything is ready. They just have to set up their shops and sell,” said Ngwe Soe.
Anyone who failed to follow the order would be prosecuted, he added.
