Dala-Twantay New Town is First Priority in Yangon Development Plan

Plans are underway to establish numerous projects, including Dala-Twantay new town, a new airport, a deep seaport and a special economic zone on Dala side, Thilawa side and Kungyangon’s adjacent areas, according to a draft of the Yangon Urban Development Strategic Plan.

Investment of US$15.86 billion has already been made in Dala-Twantay new town, which covers about 50,000 acres (20,200 hectares) of land.

Under the supervision and guidance of Yangon Region Government, Yangon City Development Committee, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Agency for French Development (AFD) are cooperating on the master plan for Yangon’s development.

The Department for International Development (DFID) is also making observations on industrial developments. In total, the projects for Yangon including Greater Yangon have a total area of 10,170 square kilometersAll projects are expected to be finished by 2040.

Twantay-Dala new town plan, which will open from 2020 to 2025, has been chosen as a pilot project along the corridor of Yangon-Hanthawady-Bago and Yangon’s Southwest Region Development Strategic Plan. A seaport and different types of industries will be established as development projects for the inland region from 2020 to 2025.

A new Dala jetty will be built from 2020 to 2025. Different types of industries for the inland region will be established from 2021 to 2030.

Yangon’s outer ring road will be built from 2020-2040. Yangon South’s Special Economic Zone Development Project will also be established from 2020 to 2040, according to the draft of Yangon Urban Development Strategic Plan.

Twantay-Dala new town plan is shown as the development projects in the Section 1 and 2, the jetty and inland project are in Section 3, and the special economic zone development project is in Section 4 and 5.

Among the projects, the Twantay-Dala new town plan is the first priority, and it will be carried out by the KOICA. Yangon’s new airport, a deep seaport and a special economic zone will be built on the Dala’s side, Thilawa side and Kungyangon’s adjacent areas.

Dagon East’s new town plan will be set up on 13,286 acres of land with an investment of US$4.355 billion; Twantay-Dala’s new town plan on 49,799 acres of land with an investment of US$15.86 billion; Thanlyin’s new town plan on 19,942 acres of land; Htantabin’s new town plan on 26,924 acres of land with an investment of US$8.831 billion; Hmawby’s new town plan on 6,589 acres of land with an investment of US$2.160 billion; Hlegu’s new town plan on 6,801 acres of land with an investment of US$2.229 billion; and the jetty and inland development project on 11,137 acres of land with an investment of US$4.621 billion.
