Steel Associations Sign MoU to Establish a Strategic Cooperation Team

The Myanmar Steel Association and Myanmar Iron and Steel Association signed a MoU on January 7 to establish a strategic cooperation for the long-term development of the industry starting from 2019.

According to the agreement, both parties intend to establish a strategic cooperation between MISA and MSA, aligning both organizations’ resources and efforts to achieve one goal: provide a platform to further develop the steel industry of Myanmar, improve the local steel industry environment, and promote the steel industry’s interests in the national agenda.

The cooperation resulted from a meeting held on December 4, 2018, attended by members from both associations and finalized the decision to establish MSA-MISA Joint Strategic Cooperation Team.

“Since we shared the same vision and mission and we feel that it will be more effective and efficient to work together. With this belief, we decided to establish the cooperation team for the development of local steel industry especially in standardization,” said U Sit Taing Aung, Chairman of Myanmar Steel Association.

The Chairman of Myanmar Iron and Steel Association, Dr. Kaythi Lwin said that they are also very glad to corporate together with MSA in sharing common objectives. MISA has already in one of the seven ASEAN member countries in ASEAN Iron and Steel Association. She believes that in the future it will be very helpful to build a relationship with other Asian counties.

According to the agreement of joint collaboration, they will emphasis in 2019 on promoting and liaising with relevant authority for the standardization of steel products in Myanmar, organizing and hosting technical seminars related to promotion of their joint mission, establishing testing laboratories/ecosystem for steel products, and last but not least, obtaining recognition from relevant authorities for testing steel products against the standards set forth by the National Standardization Committee.

Subsequently, a steering committee and a working committee for the cooperation team comprised by members from both associations will be established.
