Transportation services in Mergui archipelago to begin with two Bell helicopters

Transportation services for islands located near Kawthoung will start with two Bell helicopters in the coming tourist season, according to LTR Pte Ltd, officially representing Bell Helicopters in Myanmar.

“We are making area developments in islands located near Kawthoung with the approval from Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC). It will take about 3 hours to visit the islands from Kawthoung with ships. The helicopters can reach the islands within 15 minutes. There are hotels and resorts on those islands. The resorts need the helicopter services,” said Lin Htet, Managing Director of the LTR Pte Ltd.

Seaplane and helicopter services based in islands located near Kawthoung will be provided by Amata Aviation.

“We are in the discussion with the Department for Civil Aviation (DCA) to obtain air operator certificate (AOC) for the services.. We are expecting to introduce seaplane and helicopter services in coming October,” said Sai Kham Park Pha, a consultant for the Amata Aviation.

The Amata Aviation is a subsidiary of the Amata Public Holding Limited and the company is also building two holiday resorts on Balar and Pho Ni islands in the Mergui archipelago.

The company is interested to buy Bell-505 for tourism sector as it is a five-seat aircraft.

Test flights on the Bell 505 helicopter took place at the Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw in early October.

“We see a lot of potential in Myanmar as a developing country and believe businesses will grow as the economy opens up. Myanmar needs to improve infrastructure like roads, trains and more domestic aviation,” said Eric Ng, Business Development Manager of Singapore-based Bell Helicopter Asia Pte Ltd.

The Bell-505 helicopter is mainly used in the tourism industry in Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam.
