Myanmar Competition Commission promises to level playing field for businesses

The Myanmar Competition Commission will work with businesspersons to remove hindrances to fair competition, said Union Minister for Commerce Dr. Than Myint, urging businesses to abide by the Competition Law. The Union Minister, in his capacity as the chairman of the commission, made the remarks during his opening address at an event about competition, held yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

The event was held with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of cooperation between the commission and businesspersons in responding to unfair competition.

In his speech, the minister stressed the important role played by businesspersons in boosting economic development, and reiterated the government’s commitment towards creating an environment of fair competition for businesses.

The commission will make sure it becomes a reliable and competent authority for the benefit of the people, said the chairman of the commission.

The commission will implement laws, raise awareness, and explore and take action against those who violate the law, he said.

It will make efforts to enforce the Competition Law by issuing the necessary orders, notifications, rules, and directives.

Afterwards, the Secretary of the Competition Commission and Director-General of the Directorate of Trade, U Min Min, gave a briefing on the formation of the commission and introduced the members of the commission.
During the ceremony, the members of the commission replied to questions raised by the representatives of departments and businesspersons about the Competition Law.

The event was also attended by Deputy Minister for Information U Aung Hla Tun, officials from the office of the commission, representatives of ministries, businesspersons, entrepreneurs, and mediapersons. — MNA
