3 million gallons of daily water supply for Southern Yangon townships to start in June 2020

The process of employing contractors for distribution of three million gallons of drinking water to the townships in southern part of Yangon Region including Dala Township will begin in June 2020.

The information was disclosed by Nay Pyi Taw Council member Aung Myin Tun after Lower House MP Dr Sein Mya Aye for Dala Township asked about plans to continue the agreement between Japan International Cooperation System and Yangon City Development Committee for distribution of drinking water to his township.

“The exchange of notes and agreed minutes on procedural details (A/M) was signed between the two governments on January 3, 2018 so that the Japanese government can provide 4.176 billion yen for distribution of three million gallons of drinking water per day to the townships in southern Yangon including Dala Township. Agent agreement was signed on May 31 this year. Consultant evaluation report will be prepared and the project will start in June 2020.

The project period is from 2020 to 2022. As Dala Township is adjacent to the sea, the soil of the township has the content of sea water coming through Yangon River and Twantay canal. Five freshwater wells will be sunk to store rainwater that will be supplied to the wards of Dala Township through pipelines.

Aung Myin Tun said for water storage, the township dug three lakes in 2013-2014 fiscal year, five in 2014-2015 FY, four in 2017-2018 FY and three in 2018-2019. Under the cooperation plan between AG Resources Myanmar Co Ltd and YCDC, a water purification plant in Hsapachaung Kyaungsu that produces 200,000 litres of water and Dala water distribution camp are supplying water daily as necessary.
