Domestic airline Air Thanlwin on Wednesday suspended flights to Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, as well as the cities of Tachileik, Kyaingtong and Lashio in adjacent Shan State.
The suspension will continue until April 16, the company said in an announcement.

The airline did not provide reasons for the cancellations but promised to provide refunds to customers who had booked flights.
It advised customers to contact the tour company or ticket agency where they booked the flights.
Air Thanlwin began scheduled and charter services to all commercial and tourist destinations from its Yangon hub last October.
The cancellations came a day after the Health Ministry announced the country’s first fatality from COVID-19 disease, a 66-year-old Myanmar man who had gone to Australia for cancer treatment and stopped over in Singapore for a few days on the way back.

Earlier in the week, the government suspended all international commercial flights and stopped issuing all visas in an attempt to stop the spread of the deadly disease in the country.
Myanmar has reported 15 cases of COVID-19, most of them imported. Its two largest cities, Yangon and Mandalay, have instituted strict measures, including shutting down entertainment centres and urging restaurants to serve only take-away food. – Translated
