Myanmar generates over 3,500 megawatts of electricity

Myanmar is generating over 3,500 megawatts of electricity at the present and it is increased up to 500 megawatts of electricity within three months, according to figures from Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

Myanmar produced 3,506 megawatts of electricity on April 6 and 2998.9 megawatts of electricity on January 7.

Yangon Region spent 1,436 megawatts of electricity on April 6 and it is more than 40% of total electricity production.

Mandalay Region spent 516 megawatts of electricity on April 6 and it is more than 14% of total electricity production.

Nay Pyi Taw used 153 megawatts of electricity on April 6 and it is about 4% of total electricity production.

Other regions and states spent 1,466 megawatts of electricity on April 6 and it is more than 41% of total electricity production.

Myanmar will need about 5,000 megawatts of electricity in this summer and the ministry is implementing seven power projects to fulfill the electricity requirement, said Khin Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy during an opening ceremony of 66-megawatt natural gas fired power plant in Magway.

The seven power projects are 66-megawatt power plant in Magway, 150-megawatt power plant in Kyaukphyu, 400-megawatt power plant in Thaketa, 350-megawatt power plant in Thilawa, 20.5-megawatt power plant in Kyunchaung, 151.5-megawatt power plant in Ahlone and 28-megawatt power plant in Shwetaung. The seven power plants can produce 1,166 megawatts of electricity and the 66-megawatt power plant in Magway is run from December 16.

Power plants in Myanmar generated 1,980 megawatts of electricity in last summer.
