All businesses in Mandalay, excluding entertainment, will be allowed to resume operations after May 16, according to the regional government.
“We’re planning to check the ongoing COVID-19 cases and have businesses reopen. In the case of restaurants, they will have to continue operating under takeaway and delivery systems,” said U Zarni Aung, acting chief minister of Mandalay.
The move comes after the region’s remaining COVID-19 positive patient was on the road to recover this week. The city has a total of three cases and with the latest to recover, Case-82 on the health ministry’s, Mandalay could become the first region in the country to report 100 percent COVID-19 recovery rate.
However, public gatherings, including worshipping in groups at religious sites, will not be permitted yet; hotels and inns will be allowed to re-open in accordance with the health ministry’s guidelines, said U Zarni Aung.
Although the regional government still doesn’t allow the passenger buses to enter the region, a decision will be made under the guidelines of the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment on COVID-19, he added.
As per the central committee’s notice on May 13, Mandalay Region has reduced the night curfew from 10 pm-4 am to 12 am-4 pm starting May 16. – Translated
