Thousands of workers face financial difficulty in Bago

The closure of 47 factories in Bago Region until October 11 will cause financial problems for tens of thousands of workers according to Ma Honey, chair of the Bago textile labour union and representative of the Confederation of Trade Unions in Myanmar.

“All work has been suspended. Workers are usually paid on the fifth of every month, but now may be paid only when the factories reopen on October 11. This will cause a huge financial problem for tens of thousands of workers,” she said.

The Health and Sports Ministry issued stay-at-home orders for 11 townships in Bago, Mon, Mandalay and Ayeyarwady regions and states on September 25.
